My title

From the Superintendent

The end of school is near with seniors having less then a month left.  Graduation ceremonies have been spread out this year so board members and the community can attend multiple ceremonies.  They are all published on the GMCS web page.

With the legislative session over, I would like to thank our area representatives who fought passionate for our students.  Representatives Johnson, Lundstrom, Alcon, Martinez along with Senator Munoz and Pinto went above and beyond fighting for education in the northwest.  They made sure our voices were heard as they continued the uphill battle.  Other legislators including Rep. Johnson, Williams-Stapleton, Salazar, Richard, and Trujillo helped carry our cause in the House Ed Committee.  In Senate Ed; Pinto and Soules also ensured our voices were heard.  Unfortunately, even with their strong support the unique needs of GMCS were seen as a threat to funding other districts in the state.

We will continue to push for support of our unique needs that are caused by being a large rural district.  We are hoping for several funding studies during the interim session.

Our capital outlay projects are gaining steam.  Katherine Miller Elementary (Churchrock) is looking magnificent thanks to Murphy Builders and our local subcontractors.  Those that have passed by Jefferson Elem  will be amazed to see the changes to the landscape.  Those from my generation are celebrating the birth of a new school but will mourn the loss of "Jefferson Jumps".

We should be breaking ground on Ramah Elem with the bid just recently being awarded to Murphy Builders.  Del Norte construction should start within the next two months while the design of Lincoln and Thoreau Elementary are beginning.  We will have four construction projects and two design projects ongoing the next year with several more in the application stage.
