From the Superintendent

I am excited about the great things happening in Gallup McKinley County Schools.  28 schools raised their points on their report cards while 20 raised enough points to raise their letter grades!  David Skeet Elementary grew enough to go from a "F" to a "B" while Indian Hills from a "F" to an "A".  Both schools have a  high number of students from poverty and ELL proving that these labels were used as an excuse in the past.  Our students can and are learning!

While are proficiency rates are low, students are raising their proficiency levels at a high rate.  The NMPED report card takes into account each and every students growth.  Special thanks to our school staffs for ensuring they are working for every individual student.

While poverty, ELL status, and mobility are roadblocks that can hamper learning, by getting to know each student and targeting their needs we can break through those roadblocks.  We have already proven that this year!

I am excited to be leading this process and invite everyone to join us in finding solutions to make our district better.  I encourage everyone to visit one of our schools to find out the great things happening and also provide a voice in improving our schools.
