About Me

"Nothing in Biology Makes Sense Except in the Light of Evolution". - Christian Theodosius Dobzhansky

"Light yourself on fire with enthusiasm and people will come from miles around just to watch you burn! It is your individuality and uniqueness that will always lead you to become the most effective teacher that you can be..."
Hi! I am Arnel Dela Cruz and I graduated at the Philippine Normal University in 2003, Cum Laude, with a degree of Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Biology. I have taken up 33 units of my Master’s Degree in Science Education major in Biology at the same university.

I had my two-year professional teaching experience in the fourth and the fifth grade level at Elizabeth Seton School, Las Piñas, Philippines from 2003 to 2005, and my student teaching experience in the second year level at Bacoor National High School from 2002 to 2003. After spending two wonderful years with kids, I was assigned to teach Integrated Science in one of the most prestigious universities in the Philippines,  Adamson University-Manila. A year after, I taught Biology and Physics to 8th grade and 10th grade respectively. Constantly looking for challenges, new learning and better opportunities, I pursued a teaching position here in the US, and just like a seed of a thistle dispersed by the wind, I landed and grew as a better teacher in East Gadsden High School in Florida, where I taught Biology, Physics, Integrated Science, Advanced Placement Biology and held the Science chair position from 2008 to 2013. After teaching for five years in Florida, I moved to Arizona where I taught Science 8 and Biology in Tuba City Junior High School from 2013 to 2014. The change was abrupt and challenging but the resiliency of a Filipino runs in my blood so I accepted the challenge head up. Currently, I am teaching Biology, Earth Science, & AP Environmental
Science at Miyamura High School in Gallup, New Mexico. Places and faces have changed but my vision to make a difference in the lives of my students will remain.

It is my goal to combine my range of experience with my ability to be a compassionate, enthusiastic, creative and exploratory teacher and one who will make a positive contribution to educating the young minds particularly in the field of Biology. Further, it is my objective to be an asset to the school in promoting quality and relevant science education and in developing students who are exemplars of academic excellence and leadership by ensuring a cooperative, collaborative and inquisitive learning environment, and a strong academic and life skills training.
